Why scheduled maintenance isn't enough
Most maintenance contracts check cameras quarterly or semi-annually. That model has a built-in flaw: a fault that occurs the week after an inspection can persist for months. Every day in that gap is unrecorded, unreviewable time. For incidents, insurance claims, and investigations, footage that was never captured cannot be recovered — forensic retrieval is constrained entirely by what was actually recorded.
A camera can also pass every network check and still be operationally blind. A ping confirms the device is on the network; it says nothing about a frozen frame, a blocked lens, a failed IR illuminator, or a view that drifted out of alignment.

- Online status — is the camera reachable and streaming?
- Image usability — frozen frames, heavy noise, over/under-exposure, focus loss.
- View integrity — blocked, obscured, or misaligned views against the intended coverage.
- Night performance — IR illuminator failure that only shows after dark.
- Recording verification — footage is actually being written and retained as configured.
Active health monitoring detects these conditions within minutes or hours, not months — and produces a record of coverage reliability over time.
Why this matters more as analytics improve
